- קְשַׁשII (cmp. preced; a. קְשֵי) (to be hard, cmp. יָשַׁן, to be old. Targ. 1 Sam. 12:2 קַשֵּׁית Levita (Regia קָשֵׁית; ed. Wil. קָשֵׁיּש, v. קַשִּׁיש).Keth.95b וקַש לחמש שנין and after five years the orchard grew old (ceased to bear), Ib. כיון … עביד דקִיש since they knew that an orchard is liable to get old. B. Bath. 167b מֵיקַש הוא דקַשְׁיָאוכ׳ Ms. R. (ed. מיקש הוא דקַשָּׁה לה; Rashb. מִיקְשָׁא קשיא) she has grown old, and her voice is rough. Ḥag.13a לא קַשָּׁאִי I am not old enough; כי קַש נחוכ׳ when he was old enough, R. Joḥ. was dead. Ib. 5b. Snh.108b יהא רעוא דתֵיקוּש ותינוק ולא תמות Ar. s. v. חל 3 (ed. יהא רעוא דלא תמות) be it Gods will that thou grow old and grow young again and never die; a. e.V. קַשִּׁיש.
